Course Description: Designed to provide K-12 teachers with the information and knowledge to instruct English learners utilizing the data and information provided by formative and summative assessments. You will view released questions of the CELDT and ELPAC and SBAC practice tests. You will learn practical activities and strategies for use in your classroom.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Identify the types of English learners, along with their characteristics and needs.

  • Utilize CELDT and ELPAC scores to know and understand the English levels of students listening and reading comprehension, and speaking and writing skills.

  • Demonstrate understanding of how ELD standards support the ELA standards and use various types of assessment for English learners in scaffolding ELD and content area instruction.

  • Use formative and summative assessment to design and implement differentiated instruction and to monitor progress and attainment in areas that will be assessed annually according to state and federal mandated testing

  • Apply strategies to ensure that differentiated standards-based assessment and instruction address the needs of English learners in the ELD and content area classroom.

  • Create artifacts for the CLAD through CTEL Portfolio.
